Through this experience, the intern will gain hands-on knowledge of volunteer engagement strategies, nonprofit partnership development, and community impact. The Skilled Volunteer Engagement Intern will adhere to the mission, values, and philosophy of United Way of Greater Knoxville.

  • Correctional work involving probation-style supervision and monitoring of non-violent felony offenders who have been released from incarceration and assigned to supervision through the Day Reporting Center or Evidence-Based Programming for alcohol and drug treatments.
  • Provide direct supervision of assigned clients through home and office visits and establish needed supportive services.
  • Communicate with local Recovery Courts, judges, District Attorneys, Public Defenders, and other judicial staff.
  • Provide testimony in court, assist with electronic monitoring, collections of fees, and submitting monthly reports.
  • Locate and establish professional relationships with local resource agencies.
  • Maintain the documentation necessary to comply with ETHRA and Tennessee Department of Corrections (TDOC) program policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Conduct assessments determining felony offenders’ needs for successful reintegration.
