The Facilities Carpenter is a skilled craftsman responsible for the construction, repair, maintenance, and rehabilitation of Zoo Knoxville’s buildings, exhibits, animal enclosures, utility systems, grounds, and support structures. This position performs advanced carpentry- rough, finish, fabrication, and structural- and supports a wide variety of maintenance and construction-related tasks, including troubleshooting, diagnostics, and collaboration with multiple trades.

Under limited supervision, the Facilities Carpenter interprets construction documents, conducts material takeoffs, maintains records, leads or assists with special projects, and ensures work quality meets Zoo Knoxville’s high standards. This position supports Zoo events, guest operations, sustainability efforts, and compliance with all regulatory agencies governing zoological facilities.

As essential personnel, the Facilities Carpenter must respond to emergencies, weather events, and operational needs.

The Director of Community Engagement provides the strategic leadership for Girl Talk’s volunteer engagement and School & Site-Based Programs by developing systems for volunteer recruitment, training, retention, and community partnerships. This role focuses on high-level strategy, infrastructure, and organizational growth, while supporting Program Coordinators in the day-to-day execution and relationship management of volunteers and community sites. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader and systems-thinker who can strengthen community impact through scalable processes and strong partnerships.

Under supervision, the Landscaper will work with the Director of Horticulture & Grounds along with Zoo staff to accomplish the care, maintenance and enhancement of the landscapes and gardens. The position also includes some refuse management and participation in volunteer workdays, events, and programs within the Horticulture and Grounds Department. The person in this position has the task of maintaining and improving the daily appearance of Knoxville Zoo grounds and gardens. This individual must keep the Director of Horticulture & Grounds informed of activities, accomplishments, project status, and requirements.
